Why is France the most visited country in the world? Where do we begin?!

Firstly, there’s the food… I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. The patisseries there are amazing! So many cakes, so little time. Then there’s the cheese. More varieties of cheese than anywhere else in the world. And let’s not forget that this is the country with the most Michelin star restaurants. Coming to France is like coming to gastronomical heaven!

Secondly, you have to visit France for the history and culture. The country is a treasure trove of historical landmarks and impressive works of art. One of our favourite places are the beautifully preserved medieval fortress town of Carcassone. Boardgame fans may recognise it from the boardgame of the same name. Another place we absolutely adore is the old papal city of Avignon. This overlooks the Rhône River and is another area brimming with history and culture.
Thirdly, there is such a romantic and charming quality about France which keeps you coming back for more. Paris is known as the city of love. Beyond the capital there are so many wonderful areas to explore. We spent 6 weeks travelling through southern France and were impressed with the beauty of the country.
